Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is open to children who are at least 4 years old by September 1st of the year they enter. Transitional Kindergarten is designed to offer a bridge between preschool and Kindergarten and to prepare the child for Kindergarten. TK focuses on the spiritual, physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of your child. Children will learn to be independent, share, follow class rules, complete tasks and develop responsibility. Faith is central to all learning that takes place at Saint James Catholic School. Our children are fully involved in the school including attending Mass and prayer services.
Transitional Kindergarten is taught by one full time teacher and a full time instructional aide. The goal of TK is to provide a fun, positive, small-group setting that encourages a love of learning, develops a sense of community, and prepares your child for Kindergarten. This involves a combination of developmental, multisensory, academic and social experiences. Students will participate in cooperative play, practice self-control by learning to sit quietly during circle time and develop both gross and fine motor coordination.
The Saint James School Transitional Kindergarten class follows the regular school day and meets Monday through Friday from 8:20 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Parents can choose to enroll their child as an “early bird” for a shorter day from 8:20 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The tuition for “early birds” is the same as the full day students. Extended Care before and after school is also available for the TK students on the days that school is in session.
