Spanish Program Grades K-8
The Spanish program is available to students in grades K-8. It meets before or after school depending on grade level. The program is taught by native Spanish speaker, Marta Julian. She is an experienced teacher from Colombia and a former Saint James School parent.
Grades K, 1, 2
Songs, poems and games introduce the children to the rhythm of the language and acquisition of vocabulary. The students learn greetings, colors, parts of the body, seasons, numbers, foods, clothing, days of the week and animals.
Grades 3, 4, 5
The students learn how to spell and write in Spanish. New poems, songs and skits are introduced. There are many interactive games. Basic grammar is taught. More Spanish vocabulary is learned.
Grades 6, 7, 8
Grammar is more formal. Different tenses are studied, regular and irregular verbs are introduced and conversation in Spanish is an important component. The students are able to ask and respond to questions in complete sentences. Vocabulary continues to expand.
